Eligibility
The following categories of people are eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship:

* Person who is at least 21 years of age and has been a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) for at least 2 to 6 years prior to the date of application. Applicant who wishes to apply under his/her own merits may come for a preliminary assessment interview after 1 year of permanent residence.
* SPR who has satisfactorily completed full-time National Service (NS).
* Spouse of Singapore Citizen with a minimum of 2-year SPR and married for at least 2 years preceding the date of application.
* Minor born outside Singapore but is residing permanently in Singapore, and whose parents are Singapore Citizens.
* Child born outside Singapore whose parent is a Singapore citizen.

An overseas-born minor (child) may be eligible for Singapore Citizenship by Descent under Article 122(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore, if any of the following parental conditions can be met:

1. Male Singapore citizen by Birth who has a lawful marriage at time of minor's birth
2. Male Singapore citizen by Registration who has a lawful marriage at time of minor's' birth and minor shall not acquire citizenship of the country he was born by reason of his birth in that country
3. Female Singapore citizen by Birth and minor born on or after 15 May 2004
4. Female Singapore citizen by Registration and minor born on or after 15 May 2004. Minor shall not acquire citizenship of the country he was born by reason of his birth in that country
5. Male (who has a lawful marriage at time of minor's birth) or Female Singapore citizen by Descent has to complete an additional Annex to the application declaring their residence period in Singapore. The application can only be accepted if the applicant fulfils the requirements stipulated in (a) or (b) of the attached Annex.

The application has to be submitted within one year of the child's birth. Otherwise, a letter of explanation and additional documents are required for late submission.

All applicants for citizenship must be of good character, have satisfied the residential requirement and have the intention to reside permanently in Singapore. They must also be able to support themselves and their dependents financially.

Documents Required
For male/female applicants and spouse above 21 years old

* Completed Citizenship application form and Annex. You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to read and print the form. The Citizenship application form is also obtainable at the Citizen Services Centre.

* One recent passport-sized colour photograph of applicant affixed on the completed citizenship application form. The photograph must be:
o 35 mm wide by 45 mm high without border and taken within the last three months;
o taken full face without headgear, unless the applicant habitually wears a headgear in accordance with religious or racial customs. The headgear must not hide the applicant's facial features;
o the facial image must be between 25 mm and 35 mm from chin to crown; and taken against plain white background with a matt or semi-matt finish;
o Photographs can be taken at our photo booths located at level 2 or 3 of ICA Building.
* Identity Card and Birth Certificate
* Marriage Certificate; Divorce Certificate; Separation Deed
* Passport or travel document
* Entry Permit Card/Re-entry permits
* Educational Certificates and Skilled Certificates.
* A letter of employment from current employer stating occupation, date of employment, basic and gross salary per month, including latest payslip.
* Income tax notice of assessment for last 3 years preceding the date of this application
* CPF contributions history for last 12 months, if employed.
* Latest Computer Information on Business Profile from Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), latest balance sheet/profit and loss account if you are a sole proprietor/partner/Director of a company.
* Death Certificate of ex-spouse, proof of child/children’s custody from previous marriage, if applicable.
* Deed Poll or Religious Certificate for change of name (if any).
* Birth Certificate(s)/Passport or travel document of child/children.
* Entry Permit/Identity Card of child/children.
* Foreign Citizenship Certificate and Foreign Identity Card, if any

Please bring along all the original and a photocopy of these documents. You may also be required to furnish additional documents whenever necessary.

For spouse of Singapore citizen (Documents for applicant & spouse)

* Completed Citizenship application form and Annex. You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to read and print the form. The Citizenship application form is also obtainable at the Citizen Services Centre.

* One recent passport-sized colour photograph of applicant affixed on the completed citizenship application form. The photograph must be:
o 35 mm wide by 45 mm high without border and taken within the last three months;
o taken full face without headgear, unless the applicant habitually wears a headgear in accordance with religious or racial customs. The headgear must not hide the applicant's facial features;

For children of Singapore citizen(s) by registration
Child’s Documents
* One recent passport-sized colour photograph of applicant affixed on the completed citizenship application form. The photograph must be:
o 35 mm wide by 45 mm high without border and taken within the last threfrom current employer, stating the occupation, date of employment and basic/gross salary per month, including latest payslip, if employed.
o Income Tax Notice of Assessment for last 3 years preceding the date of application.
o Business registration certificate from Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), latest balance sheet/profit and loss account if applicant is a sole proprietor/partner/Director of a company.
o CPF contributions history for last 12 months, if employed.
o Birth Certificate(s); Singapore Citizenship Certificate(s); Adoption Certificate; Passport(s) of other child/children.

Please bring along all the original and a photocopy of these documents. You may also be required to furnish additional documents whenever necessary.

For children of Singapore citizen(s) by descent
o Completed Citizenship application form. You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to read and print the form. The Citizenship application form is also obtainable at the Citizen Services Centre.

Child's Document
o One recent passport-sized colour photograph of child affixed on the completed citizenship application form. The photograph must be:
+ 35 mm wide by 45 mm high without border and taken within the last three months;
+ taken full face without headgear, unless the applicant habitually wears a headgear in accordance with religious or racial customs. The headgear must not hide the applicant's facial features;
+ the facial image must be between 25 mm and 35 mm from chin to crown; and taken against plain white background with a matt or semi-matt finish;
+ Photographs can be taken at our photo booths located at level 2 or 3 of ICA Building.
o Birth Certificate of child/passport or other travel document.

Parents’ Documents
o Identity Card and Passport.
o Marriage Certificate. If parents’ marriage was registered outside Singapore, child’s father is required to make a Statutory Declaration stating that (name of wife) is his one and only wife if he is the applicant for child’s citizenship.

Death Certificate/Divorce Certificate/Separation Deed/Custody document of child/children by previous spouses, if applicable. Letter of consent from ex-spouse if child is under joint-custody.

Procedure
o Submit the completed Citizenship application form together with all the supporting documents to Counter 7 or 8 of the Citizen Services Centre.

Operating Hours:
Monday to Friday : 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Saturday : 8.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

o An interview will be arranged for you once the officer has assessed you are eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship.(For application under spouse of Singapore Citizens, the sponsor must be present at time of interview)
o Pay the processing fee at Counter 7 or 8.
o Wait for notification of the result of the application.
Note: At the interview, the Interview Officer will verify the documents against the information stated in the application form. The applicant will also have to make a declaration before the Interviewing Officer that the information stated in the application form is true and correct.

Processing Time
3 to 6 months. Some cases may take a longer time to complete.

Peak Periods to Avoid
o Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, school holidays, eve and the day after public/school holidays
o 10.00 am to 2.00 pm on weekdays
o 9.00 am to 1.00 pm on Saturdays
There is generally a larger crowd in March, June, September and December
