I suggest that you memorise new words through their uses in English stories, rather than swallowing them raw.

There is indeed a shortcut to memorising vocabulary, but I don't want to mention it here as it is detrimental to your understanding in a long run.

Don't force yourself to memorise 100 words in one day, especially those Chinese translations. Just take it easy, and get an English-to-English dictionary to help you further.

It's a good habit to put new words into sentences and understand its practical use. Learn their contextual meaning rather than original meaning.

我的建议:OPEN YOUR MONTH. Practice it.

IF YOU PRACTICE IT, YOU CAN HAVE IT, IF NOT, YOU WILL LOSE IT.

[em01][em02][em01][em02]

Have you tried thinking in English when you use English? You'll never become proficient in English if you do not think in English.

You could memorise lots of words my rote, but you might not know how to use them correctly in context, or you don't understand them when you hear them (because you've not heard them spoken or said in connected speech).

When you see them in print you will understand them through your first language and try to match the Chinese definitions you've committed to memory to the several meanings English words can have.

If you've acquired some proficiency in English, you should learn English through English and use a monolingual dictionary as suggested by some of the posts above.
