Dear Sir,

This is not the first time that I am complaining on M1's policy.

I am a foreign student who has stayed in Singapore for 7 years, and I have been using M1 phone line for 4 years since I was 16.

2 years ago M1 suddenly changed its policy to refuse any student pass holder to sign up or upgrade 2 year plan. I sent a complaint about that and I was glad to know that it was changed later on. Although I would need to pay a S$200 deposit when upgrading my line, I found it reasonable as there are people who leave this country without paying their bill or finishing their plan.

However, just few months ago, things are getting a bit unreasonable. A foreign student will have to pay another S$300 deposit, on top of the S$200 deposit, so to sign up a 2 year plan and get a discounted handset.

First of all, we are students; we are here to study not to work, so with no income our expense should be minimized. If the S$200 is for M1 to save some loss on those who break the bond, another S$300 is really too much for us.

Secondly, M1 have its competitors in the market. Another company is offering 2 year contracts to students with only a S$200 deposit, even for discounted handset. And their price plans are as competitive. So in this way M1 should be losing quite some customers in this category.

If M1 is too afraid of students running away with debt, I think they should take a closer look at our student pass. I am currently studying in NTU and it's another 2 years before the end of my course. So, unless my debt is high enough for bankruptcy, why should I run away from the bill with the cost of my undergraduate certificate? I think for foreign students the deposit should be base on their student pass status.

Lastly, I must say that since I have already used M1 service for 4 years, I really do not want to make a change now, unless there are enough reasons. 2 years ago I chose to remain as a M1 user because it changed its policy to be reasonable. So I do hope this time M1 will consider my suggestion again.

Regards,

to GRIGRI, there's another fact might support your stand which is there has been a big increase of the number of the prepaid card holder among foreign students.that might lead a loss of long-term customers of M1.
